I have a main directory & I have been sorting them in subdirectories by category/topics like Full length movies, TV, commercials, Atomic Age, Political, Science, Camp, Medical, Military, Scifi

Reason is: I find the filenames are not always that helpful in remembering the content. Problem is, some fall into many groups (e.g. would you put an Outer Limits episode under classic TV or SciFi? A potential solution would be to have sub-sub directories in the major ones - like classic TV would be 'big' enough to have sub groups.

If I do remember a name/title and can't find it I just right click my main Movies folder and 'Search' from there.

Vista has a smoking hot fast search feature that I love (about the only feature of Vista I really love)

Does anyone know if there is a way to add descriptors/keywords to a file description, like many photo viewing programs allow? E.g. put date, B&W/Colour, length, category, title, producer, genre, keywords?

I have a shelf on a bookcase in the living room, containing my favorite, most-watched movies (mostly 1950s sci-fi b-movies). Everything else is semi-organized in plastic storage boxes in the spare room, for example, all the Alpha Video DVDs (about 200) are in one huge box by themselves. Then there are two small bookcases near the TV set containing nothing but old TV shows.

I know where everything is, but anyone else would be lost.

This might be silly, but how about by title? Ie. the Suspense programs, I put 5 or 6 programs on DVD, write the title down on these paper envelope along with season number in Roman numerals along with episode number in Arabic numbers(ie 1,2,3 etc)
